Try using database model and scripts from the manual.I think it will be good idea to implement connection timeout. It will be done in a one of the future version of Rapid SCADA. Also this work can be accelerated on commercial basis.
As an option you can split polling into several communication lines to communicate in parallel.

If you mean showing sliders, you should create a set of images using your favourite image editor in PNG or JPG format. Each image will contain their own level. Then open SCADA-Scheme Editor and use Dynamic picture component. Configure Conditions property of the component to show an image according to input channel value. Don’t forget to specify Input channel property.Thanks!
