    Dear all,

I have a FX2N-20MR chinese semi-clon of a Mitsubishi PLC. It has only a serial DB9 port that cannot be removed or exchanged (which is possible in the Mitsubishi original PLC). I think it is RS-232 as I am currently seeing that the Mitsubishi GX-Works 2 software detects when the PLC is connected to the computer’s serial port (I had to buy this serial port board for my PC as nowadays the computers do not come with this port anymore and the serial to USB converters I tried did not work with my PLC). I wonder if I can make a simple SCADA system using that port and just one computer running this software and Windows 7 or Xubuntu version 20. Please provide detailed information as I am a beginner.

The Mitsubishi manuals are not very helpful as they talk about using additional modules which cannot be added to my PLC because it does not have any other connection pins/port/connector.

    Thanks
    Regards

    Marcelo

    Hi,

If the PLC support Modbus communication protocol, you can use it with Rapid SCADA. You need to know Modbus register map that contain Modbus addresses to poll.

If the RS232 port uses additional signals other than Rx and Tx, then cheap converters will not work. To do this, you need to have a connection diagram. The RS485 interface can also be soldered on the DB9 port, but again, you need to have a diagram of the interfaces of your PLC. It is worth contacting the seller of this equipment.
