Minor random error with Modbus Device.

There is a line with a meter that is setup with the modbus protocol and RTU transmission. Based on information from the physical display and other software like modpoll, it is like 5 – 10 above, sometimes in the decimals but never much higher. On a recent instance it dropped by 30 and was slowly returning to value it dropped from over the course of the night, for reference we are talking about a number in the thousands.

Additionally it the configuration and channels and all have been set, there are 3 other different meters that use modbus and work.

What possible errors could this be and in what direction should I be looking.
