    Hi Mikhail,

That’s fine I can wait for the next release. I have shortened my port numbers for now so I am starting at 9501 instead of 10501.

I’m struggling to create channels and map signals at the moment as when I add new sites I’m messing up the values for the existing. I think another training session may be required just to cover that part.

    Many thanks,
    Bret

    Hi Mikhail,

I have tried everything to get the connections working again but since I’ve re-installed and done the update all I get is the following:

“2015-09-08 12:39:10 Unable to communicate with the device because connection is not established”

This is configured using “Undefined” in the Communication Line Parameters and the IP address and port in the call number field in the request sequence. The only way I can get a connection to work is by configuring it in the Communication channel, which is obviously wrong.

Have you seen this problem anywhere else?

    Many thanks,
    Bret

    Hi Mikhail,

There seems to be a new problem that I didn’t have previously but it looks like a new feature. With my connections configured as per your previous help and advice all I get in the log file is:

“2015-09-06 11:04:23 Unable to communicate with the device because connection is not established”

Under the Communication Line Parameters tab I usually have “Undefined” selected for the channel type and the connection is completed through the Call Number in Request Sequence. If I change this to TCP Client and add the IP address and port I get a connection. The issue here is that I can only have one device per Communication Line as my devices are all on different public ports.

Has this changed within the software or have I configured something incorrectly?

    Thanks,
    Bret

    Hi Mikhail,

You sir, are a genius! Blocked DLL files have now been unblocked!

I will configure my connections again.

    Thanks,
    Bret

    Hi Mikhail,

I’ve done the upgrade but now my communication line will not initialise, I just get the following and then no further…

    ——————————————————————————–
2015-09-05 09:59:26 Initialize communication line 1 “Hartwell GM”

Any idea what I might have broken?

    Hi Mikhail,

Thanks for your replies, sorry for the delay I’ve been really busy and haven’t had much time to look at it.

I spoke with Cewe and they can’t see any reason why I receive these values, although they did suggest that I should be using modbus address 0 which we already know doesn’t work within Rapid SCADA for an unknown reason.

Where can I obtain the new Modbus driver? Is it downloadable from the website or do I need to download the full package?

I’m keen to get this working and I’ve now got other devices I want to connect so my project has become larger.

    Many thanks,
    Bret

    Hi Mikhail,

I’ve got the manual here, I will try some different registers and also check that the meter is still configured at address 2 on the CeweMod.

I am also awaiting confirmation that the protocol document is correct but it is the latest as far as I am aware. I’ll keep trying different configurations today to try and get some values.

    Thanks,
    Bret

    Hi Mikhail,

OK thanks. Everything is decimal at least but all showing zero values although looking at the hex values there does seem to be something there.

    Hi Mikhail,

I did send you a response by email yesterday evening so it isn’t showing on this thread. I now have what looks like good data from the meter, I suppose my next step is to configure the next part of the software and try to get the hex data converted to decimal.

This will be easy to check as I can see hte figures directly from the CeweMod also.

    Thanks for your help.

Thanks Mikhail, I will try this morning.

I will send the full IP address to you also.

I did wonder about the 8 bytes on those registers. It is good that an updated driver is due though, I will look out for that. I have added as per the above and the log is below, I have omitted the IP address as it is a live public IP to a real meter but I am happy to let you have it if required for testing.

    Hi Mikhail,

Thanks once again. At least I know I have part of it correct. It’s not easy for me to add an extract as long term I want to try to read as much information from the meter as possible and the different registers have different formats. However, I have uploaded the PDF to my webserver if you would like to look at it, certainly the first couple of pages seem to be of interest to someone who understands it. CeweMod Protocol Mapping

The main registers at the moment are “Energy Registers” and will be 465-468 and 469-472.

I really appreciate your help with this.

OK, I think I’m making some progress although I now have an error as follows:

2015-08-19 14:55:44 Communication session with Device 1 “Hale Farm Generation Meter”, type: KpModbus, call number: ***.***.***.***:502
    Request element group “Energy Registers”

    Receive (7/7): 00 00 00 00 00 03 00
    Receive (2/2): 84 02
Device error: [02] ILLEGAL DATA ADDRESS!
    Request element group “Energy Registers”
    Send (12): 00 00 00 00 00 06 00 04 04 25 00 04

It looks as though I’m receiving data prior to the error but I don’t know where to look for the data address.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Mikhail,

Thank you for this, I think I have managed to add the device template successfully as the last entry in the communicator stats is “Start receiving commands” whereby previously I have seen errors. I’m not able to see if the data values are coming through as I guess this is further along in the configuration but at least I am not receiving errors now.

I’m not certain how the meter is configured, it uses an ID of 0 in the Modbus gateway so I have left the device address as 0. The registers are confusing me as there are a different number of bytes per entry for different registers.

    Onward and upward!

    Hi Mikhail,

Thank you for your reply and sorry for the delay in replying. I am using a CeweMod Modbus gateway which reads serial data using the IEC protocol from the meter and converts it in to Modbus TCP as IEEE-754 (which I don’t understand but it’s in the manual!).

I do have the Modbus mapping document in PDF format if you would like a copy of it. I am going through the guides you kindly posted the links to now but I have to say I’m clueless so just guessing really.

Many thanks for your help, once I know how to do it there’ll be no stopping me. 🙂
